Ed Sherry OBE MSc : Strategic Director

After successfully implementing an innovative approach to the VPC in central London, Ed led its expansion across all London boroughs. Appointed as Strategic Director for the National VPC in 2013, he shaped the nationally agreed VPC aims and principles and oversaw the rollout of VPC across all Police Forces in England in Wales. Ed was awarded an OBE for services to young people and policing in 2016 and holds an MSc in Risk Crisis and Resilience Management. The findings from his dissertation research helped shape the VPC strategy 2020-2024.

Nick Healey : Operation Delivery Director

Nick works closely with the Chief Constable Shaun Sawyer, the National Police Chiefs Council portfolio lead for VPC. Nick served as a Police Officer for 19 years, starting in the Met Police in 1996, whilst he helped out with a the then Volunteer Cadet Corps. He transferred to Devon and Cornwall Police in 2007 and in 2013 was posted as a Sgt on the VPC National Portfolio. In 2015 he left Policing to work in private industry. He then returned to the VPC portfolio in 2018 holding responsibility as the National VPC Hub Manager. Nick is also a VPC Leader in Devon & Cornwall Police in Torbay.

Graeme Ironside MSc GradIRM : Strategic Risk & Governance expert

Graeme was responsible for partnerships, including VPC and then licensing late in his police service. On leaving, Graeme helped night-time economy venues strengthen business resilience. A member of the Institute of Risk Management, Graeme holds an MSc in Risk, Crisis and Resilience Management and a project management diploma. He combines operational experience with an academic approach to strengthen VPC safety. He also manages partnership projects aimed at increasing opportunities for cadets on their VPC journey.

Helen Nellany : Safeguarding Manager

Helen is a serving Police Sergeant with Lancashire Constabulary. Helen joined the National VPC Team on secondment in January 2019 and is our National Safeguarding Manager and Youth Mental Health First Aid Trainer. Helen is responsible for ensuring the safeguarding policy is up to date with key legislation and guidance. She also provides support and advice to Forces in relation to Safeguarding and other issues whilst looking to develop a national safeguarding case management system.

Mick Urwin : Operational Delivery Manager

Mick is responsible for operational delivery, overseeing our training delivery, creation and implementation of the Cadet Journey program & resources and day to day engagement with all police forces in England & Wales. Mick was previously a cadet leader and force VPC coordinator with Durham Constabulary joining the team on secondment in September 2019 and after completing 30 years policing service in August 2020 as a Sgt he re-joined the team.

Racheal Robinson - Cadet Journey lead

Racheal is an experienced lecturer and assessor sitting on the Education Panel representing Gateshead College. Racheal is the teams Cadet Journey Lead ensuring that learning topics are relevant for Cadets and supporting leaders in planning and delivery. Racheal works with our own VPC educational programme board in developing the wider Cadet Journey. Racheal is an ex-police officer serving 17 years with Northumbria Police in various roles and specialised in Training and was a Cadet leader.

Tim Mann - Adult Training, Projects & Partnership Lead

Tim has extensive youth, cadet and training background. Previously a VPC coordinator (& now a Volunteer Leader), he has been actively involved in national cadet programmes, training, major events, camps and more for many years. As our Training, Projects and Partnerships lead, Tim has led adult and youth training programmes, opportunities with community and corporate partners for cadets, promoting dedicated volunteering, commitment and social action of VPCs in Forces across the UK. Tim said “Being part of this journey is a real privilege. In the VPC we say it doesn’t matter where you come from: it’s where you’re going that counts!” Tim is also a retired police officer.

Matt Strzeszewski - Youth Voice / Marshall Volunteer Portal lead

Matt was a Cadet in the past and has progressed to being a Cadet Leader in his local unit, he joined the team in January 2019 and is responsible for the delivery of Youth Voice, and project support . He is our Marshall Volunteer Portal expert and supports day to day engagement with VPC schemes across all police forces. Mat is also serving Special Constable with Lancashire Constabulary
