Blackley VPC recently helped out at the local Fun Day and Bonfire/Firework Display, which involved interacting with their local community and providing crime prevention information. The cadets also wanted to do more to support charities; this led to the cadets going Poppy Selling at the local Tesco’s. They raised £398 for the Middleton Royal British Legion and received a huge thank you for their efforts. They further supported Remembrance by attending the City of Manchester Remembrance Sunday Parade and acted as the reef layers for the armed forces, this was an honour for the cadets!

As well as the volunteering events, Blackley have been nominated for, and won, numerous awards. The Blackley Peer Leaders recently won at the Chief Constables STARS awards for their dedication to cadets and helping the younger cadets develop. Peer Leader Cadet Khan recently won at the National Leap Young Leaders Awards for his commitment to preventing hate crime, bullying and anti-social behaviour. Cadet Khan is also due to attend the Lord Ferrer’s Award Finals after being short-listed for his work around hate crime. This is a very prestigious award and we wish him luck in the finals! In addition to this, two Blackley Peer Leaders have been invited to represent the GMP Police Cadets at the High Sheriffs Christmas Ball; they will have the opportunity to act as sword bearers for the evening.  Blackley VPC are preparing for another full month of volunteering events!
