The event was opened by West Yorkshire Police’s Assistant Chief Constable Angela Williams with a special double award presentation – cadet of the month and promotion to senior cadet in one go. The cadets then got to try their hand at four different sports – each coached by a leading female light in the sport.
Powerlifting, coached by current Army Powerlifting Champion Alison Booker, proved particularly popular with the cadets who were in awe of her 140kg deadlift. Soccer skills, netball and boxing were also on the agenda and thanks to representatives of the Army Reserve sports teams for their time and enthusiasm in delivering such an inspiring session.
Unit Lead, Rob Southwood said “With the physical element being such an important part of their Duke of Edinburgh silver award, it’s great to be able to give our cadets the opportunity to try new sports and meet inspirational coaches.”
