On May 11th 2018, it was ‘The Pride of Somerset Youth Awards’, an annual event that is held to celebrate the hard work and efforts that local children and young adults under the age of 20 undertake within their communities across Somerset.

The awards are organised by BBC Somerset, the Rotary Club of Taunton, and the Somerset County Gazette. The ceremony was held at the Conference Centre at Bridgwater and Taunton College, Taunton. The event was hosted by BBC Somerset Breakfast Presenter Simon Parking.

This year, two Volunteer Police Cadets from Taunton and Street were nominated by their two Main Cadet Leaders, Mark Bell and Abigail Smythe, for all of their hard work and determination that they show within Cadets. Main Cadet Leader, Mark Bell, said, “It’s an honour to nominate two outstanding people who went on to win this award. Their ongoing support and dedication goes a long way to making both cadet units the success they are”.

Both Jake Edwards and Zara Cadwallader, the two cadets, were winners of the Pride of Somerset Youth Award 2018. Jake and Zara were both astounded when they found out the news that they were winners and felt proud to receive the accolade.
