Tuesday 22nd May marked a special day for both Prince and his Patronage Charities, where 6000 invited guests attended a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace, celebrating HRH 70th birthday. HRH chose his birthday to shine a light on his Patronage charities, of which Youth United Foundation played an extensive and notable role in the festivities.

Just over a hundred Cadets and uniformed youth members and leaders undertook a range of special duties, from stewarding, to lane marshalling, to forming the protective square with HRH’s Yeomen.

The Volunteer Police Cadets were represented by Metropolitan Police Kensington & Chelsea VPC, Greater Manchester Police VPC, South Wales Police Youth Volunteers, North Wales VPC, Surrey VPC, Suffolk VPC and Police Scotland Youth Volunteers.

During his speech to his father, HRH The Duke of Sussex noted Youth United cadets and members for playing an important role in HRH The Prince of Wales birthday celebrations.

The event was widely covered by the National press and posted about extensively on social media.

The front pages of many newspapers the next day were of course of the newly wedded Duke and Duchess of Sussex, alongside HRH The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, with our cadets and young people proudly stood in the background.

As this event fell on the first anniversary of the Manchester Arena bombings, many of the emergency services first on the scene that night attended as guests, including Harry Keane, Greater Manchester Police Trafford VPC Cadet, who supported police officers who attended to victims and the arena that evening. Harry spoke to Royal Editor, Chris Ship [ITV News at 10] about his experiences of that night.

PC Jayne Richardson from Kensington & Chelsea VPC who was the VPC leader on the day said " The cadets and I were overwhelmed to be involved in such a special occasion, the attending cadets should be extremely proud as they did an excellent job on the day".

The Volunteer Police Cadets would like to thank Youth United Foundation for involving us in this fantastic opportunity.
